CNN: No. 1 killer: Cancer is catching up to heart disease

Heart disease is the number one cause of death for Americans, but cancer deaths are increasing. 14 years ago, cancer was the leading cause of death in just two states. Now, it’s the leading cause in 22 states, according to new data from the National Vital Statistics System.

Recently, CNN reporter Susan Scutti interviewed Deepa Halaharvi, DO, breast cancer surgeon with OhioHealth Breast and Cancer Surgeons, about this data.

According to the article, this might be due to the prevalence of obesity in the United States.Obesity is a risk factor for both heart disease and cancer.
