OhioHealth named a “Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace” by Dave Thomas Foundation

Other ranked companies include American Express, Hilton, Microsoft and the NBA

OhioHealth has been recognized as one of the “Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces” in the country by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. This is the 11th annual employer survey conducted by the foundation to identify the top 100 employers in the country with the best adoption benefits. OhioHealth ranked 21st.

“We are proud to be recognized by the Dave Thomas Foundation for our adoption-related benefits,” said Johnni Beckel, senior vice president and Chief Human Resources Officer. “Helping our associates expand their family while helping a child find their ‘forever’ home brings us great joy and we’re very happy to be able to do that for them.”

The Foundation looks at financial reimbursement and paid leave to create its list.

OhioHealth’s program allows for a lifetime maximum benefit of two adoptions. For each adoption, an associate can be reimbursed up to $13,460 in eligible expenses, including:

  • Legal fees and court fees
  • Adoption agency fees and foreign adoption fees (agency must be licensed by the State of Ohio)
  • Required medical exams for the child and/or the adopting parent(s)
  • Initial immunizations for the child
  • Transportation costs to bring the child to the adopting parents (or for the adult accompanying the child to the United States, if applicable)
  • Other reasonable and customary expenses the adopting parents are legally required to pay, considered on a case by case basis
  • Expenses for kinship adoptions, i.e., adoption of a grandchild, sibling, niece, nephew, or cousin

Additionally, OhioHealth provides up to two weeks of partially paid (70%) parental leave to the associate.

“We are pleased and excited to see companies, both large and small, continue to be committed to the importance of family bonding time when a child enters a home through adoption, “said Rita Soronen, president & CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

“There are more than 110,000 children in the U.S. foster care system waiting to be adopted,” added Soronen. “The Foundation is committed to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions from foster care. We commend all employers who recognize the importance of helping a child join their forever family.”
