10TV: Are Two Masks Better Than One?

It's become second nature over the last year.   When out in public, we reach for our mask as a way to protect ourselves and those around us from COVID-19.  But have you noticed people wearing multiple masks, layered one on top of the other?

A study out of Australia is saying that double masking might be beneficial to protect yourself and stop the spread.

10TV reporter Gabriela Garcia asked Joe Gastaldo, MD, OhioHealth system medical director of infectious diseases, if this is somthing people should consider.

“The more layers of filter you have, it does make sense that wearing more than one mask would do a better, more efficient job of filtering out particles in the virus,” Dr. Gastaldo told 10TV.   He says wearing a mask with two layers can have a similar benefit.

Most important?  Wearing your mask correctly, taking care to make sure it is well fitting and covers both your mouth and nose.
