10TV: It's Still Important to Wear a Mask
As restaurants, bars, hair salons and shops continue to open, things might start to feel a bit more "normal." However, one day-to-day aspect of many that is different from a year ago is the importance of wearing a mask when out in public.
COVID-19 can affect people of all ages. As positive cases continue to rise in some states, including Ohio, we're seeing an increase in young people testing positive. These younger people, who might not show symptoms, can act as a transmitter by unknowingly spreading the virus to their friends and family, including those who are vulnerable, such as the elderly or people with underlying conditions. This means the same advice that was given at the beginning of the outbreak is still important to follow.
"I'm speaking to you as a voice of science," said Joseph Gastaldo, MD, OhioHealth system medical director of infectious diseases, in an interview with 10TV medical reporter Tracy Townsend. "Wearing a mask in public, along with social distancing and hand hygiene are tools we have to prevent the transmission of COVID-19."
