Exercise may increase brain volume and help stave off dementia, new study finds.
Exercise may dramatically reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease… according to a new study.
Researchers analyzed the health records of 876 men and women who underwent brain scans, memory tests and filled out questionnaires about their physical activity.
The results showed the more a participant exercised the larger his or her brain volume. That brain benefit translated to a 50% reduction in their risk of Alzheimer’s.
Increased exercise also boosted brain volume in people who already showed some mild cognitive impairment.
The editor of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease says, "Currently the greatest promise in Alzheimer's disease research is lifestyle intervention including increased exercise.”
