OhioHealth Announces Plans To Build New Medical Campus in Canal Winchester

OhioHealth announced today that it plans to construct a large outpatient medical campus in the city of Canal Winchester.

The new 40K square-foot facility will enable OhioHealth to increase access to primary care, emergency care and specialty services in the growing community of Canal Winchester, southeast Franklin County, northwest Fairfield County and northeast Pickaway County.

“OhioHealth’s strategy is to keep care close to where people live and work,” said Michael Ezzie, MD, president of the OhioHealth Physician Group and the project’s executive sponsor. “This new center will provide greater access to a wide range of healthcare services for the residents of Canal Winchester, which we are very excited about.”

“The City of Canal Winchester looks forward to partnering with Ohio Health on the planning and construction of this medical complex,” said Mike Ebert, Mayor of Canal Winchester. “This significant investment into our community will not only serve as an easily accessible healthcare destination for our growing community in a convenient setting, but also provide for healthcare career opportunities that are close to home for our residents.”

In April, OhioHealth purchased 6.76 acres of land along Waterloo Street, adjacent to the Waterloo Crossing Shopping Center, for the new medical campus. The health system expects to break ground this fall and welcome patients in early 2025.

Although OhioHealth is still in the early stages of planning, the facility is expected to include a 10k square-foot freestanding emergency department and a 30k square-foot medical office building that will house primary care, sports medicine, women’s and reproductive care, and other specialty services. Additional services may be added in time. In total, OhioHealth expects to invest $31 million in the Canal Winchester project.
