OhioHealth Celebrates Emergency Department Renovation at Marion General Hospital
A newly renovated emergency department at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital is focused on improving patient comfort and safety.
After a little more than a year of construction, hospital leaders, associates, and community members gathered to celebrate the completion of a $5.8 million renovation of the hospital’s Emergency Department with a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 5. The project has transformed the space to enhance patients’ experience.
Features of the renovation include:
- “Fast track” area: Designed for patients with low-acuity conditions, this area helps expedite care for those with less severe symptoms and improving the flow for high-acuity patients.
- Behavioral health area: A dedicated area to provide a controlled environment for behavioral health needs to ensure a safe and efficient care process.
- Enhanced ultrasound space: This includes three large ultrasound rooms and a separate documentation room. The ultrasound rooms are procedure friendly and are big enough to allow a patient to have a support person at their bedside, when appropriate.
The improvements are already leading to positive results. In most cases so far, patients are waiting significantly less time to be seen by a doctor in the Emergency Department.
"We’ve seen improvement in the amount of time it takes for our patients to go from the door to doctor in the Emergency Department. This new space helps our team of providers work as efficiently as possible,” said Matthew White, MD, medical director of emergency services at Marion General Hospital.
Construction on the Emergency Department renovation project started in September 2024 and work was done over a series of phases to minimize disruption to patients and associates.
