OhioHealth Names George Simon, MD, Vice President of Oncology Services

OhioHealth is proud to announce George R. Simon, MD, FACP, FCCP, as the vice president of Oncology Services. With more than 25 years of experience in oncology, Dr. Simon brings a wealth of expertise in cancer medicine and clinical research to the organization.

Prior to joining OhioHealth, Dr. Simon served as Executive Medical Director and Department Chair at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. His career includes leadership roles at some of the nation’s top cancer institutions, including the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he was a Professor of Medicine and Section Chief of Translational Research in the Department of Thoracic, Head and Neck Medical Oncology.

Dr. Simon’s research efforts focus on individualizing therapy through precision medicine, early drug development and artificial intelligence-based predictive strategies. His work has been supported by the National Cancer Institute and the Department of Defense. He has also played a key role in securing multi-investigator NCI grants, such as the Lung Cancer SPORE (Specialized Programs of Research Excellence).

As a respected leader in the field, Dr. Simon has served on multiple national and international review panels, including the National Cancer Institute and the Department of Defense. His contributions extend to the development of national lung cancer guidelines through his involvement with the American College of Chest Physicians and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).

Dr. Simon is board-certified in medical oncology. He holds two U.S. patents related to cancer treatment and has dedicated his career to improving patient outcomes through research and compassionate care.

In his role as vice president of oncology, Dr. Simon will oversee OhioHealth’s comprehensive oncology program and drive efforts to expand access to high-quality care for patients across the region.
