OhioHealth Pledges $100,000 to Columbus Urban League to Boost Workforce Development
OhioHealth has donated $100,000 which is providing Enterprise level support for the workforce development pillar for the Columbus Urban League (CUL).
“OhioHealth is pleased to support the Columbus Urban League in enhancing workforce opportunities in underrepresented communities,” said Karen Morrison, president, OhioHealth Foundation and senior vice president, OhioHealth. “Our investment will drive the development of diverse career paths and provide broader access to essential resources. This reflects our commitment to community growth and the advancement of healthcare careers in central Ohio. This investment underscores OhioHealth's ongoing relationship with the Columbus Urban League.”
CUL is transforming from a social service agency to a wealth-building powerhouse. A critical part of their new strategy calls them to ensure that people from underrepresented communities secure and succeed in high-growth fields such as health care. Through CUL’s career connect hub culturally authentic coaches will provide an array of options and services, such as help in securing childcare or transportation, enhanced employability skills and access to specialized training and certifications, whether on site or through local partners like Columbus State Community College.
Stephanie Hightower, president and CEO of the Columbus Urban League, shared her gratitude, “With dedicated community partners like OhioHealth, this meaningful investment will open new doors for underrepresented people. In a community survey completed earlier this year, we demonstrated that many working people welcome new career options and opportunities. It’s exciting to give them the chance to realize their potential and ensure that our health care system can tap into a motivated, skilled workforce.”
The donation will focus on guiding and supporting Black and urban communities as they pursue careers in high-demand fields such as healthcare. The services will not only provide job training but also offer ongoing support to overcome barriers such as childcare and transportation, ensuring long-term career success.
