OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center Launches eICU Program
OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center has launched a new electronic intensive care unit (eICU) program, providing around-the-clock monitoring for patients in its intensive care unit. The service went live May 13 and connects the hospital’s care teams with critical care experts across the OhioHealth system.
Through secure video, audio and real-time vital sign monitoring, licensed ICU nurses and physicians are able to observe patients remotely and communicate directly with bedside staff. This technology allows for early detection of changes in a patient’s condition, supports clinical decision-making, and enables timely intervention when needed.
“This program helps us keep high-quality care close to home,” said Wendy Elliott, president of Southeastern Medical Center. “Patients and families can feel confident knowing their care teams are supported day and night, right here in Cambridge.”
The eICU provides an added layer of support while keeping patients in the community. Physicians and nurses at OhioHealth’s central monitoring center work in coordination with hospital staff to provide an extra set of trained eyes on patients who need close observation.
“Our bedside teams are doing excellent work,” said Elliott. “The eICU adds another level of support. It’s about working together to ensure we don’t miss opportunities to act early.”
The program is part of OhioHealth’s ongoing efforts to bring advanced technology and clinical expertise to patients across the region. In early May, Southeastern Medical Center also transitioned to CareConnect, OhioHealth’s comprehensive electronic health record system, further enhancing communication and care coordination for patients.
