For Rosemary Pitts, becoming OhioHealth’s chief financial officer and executive vice president was a full-circle moment. Born at OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, Ohio, Pitts is now helping lead the same health system where her life began.
Pitts is the first woman and the first leader from outside the hospital industry to serve as OhioHealth’s CFO. With 15 years at Cardinal Health, along with leadership positions at PerkinElmer and Hyperion Materials & Technologies, she brings years of financial experience and a fresh perspective to her new role.
“There are a lot of challenges to solve in healthcare and I thought I could bring a lot of those experiences that I've had across my career to help drive the strategy forward,” Pitts told Columbus Business First. “It's very rewarding to be part of an organization that serves such an important role in the community.”
Through its 16 hospitals, OhioHealth continues to serve communities across the state, reaching 50 of Ohio’s 88 counties. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, OhioHealth reported $610 million in operating income on record revenue of $7.43 billion, resulting in an 8.2% operating margin. These figures highlight the scale of the financial operations Pitts now oversees as she settles into her role.
Pitts spent 14 years with Cardinal Health, three of which were in Dublin, Ireland, where she advanced into a role overseeing commercial operations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Throughout her career abroad, she gained extensive experience in corporate finance, international operations and financial strategy. Despite spending much of her career overseas and working across different industries, Pitts has maintained strong ties to her Ohio roots.
“I have a lot to learn coming from outside the industry, and they're all very willing to teach me – and also very open and appreciative of the diverse experience that I bring to the table,” Pitts said.
Beyond her professional experience, Pitts says her connection to OhioHealth’s mission is what makes the opportunity especially meaningful. Having grown up on a farm in Ohio and experienced OhioHealth’s care through her own family, she understands the organization’s impact on the communities it serves.
“I've had the opportunity to visit a lot of our care sites and really see what our teams do,” Pitts said. “It's really moving to see what our teams do and the impact that we're having on the community.”
