10TV White Coats for Black Lives 6.5.20

On Friday, June 5, healthcare professionals around the country took a knee and gathered in a moment of silence for eight minutes and 46 seconds to honor George Floyd and people of color everywhere.  This expression of solidarity was part of the #WhiteCoatsForBlackLives movement and recognizes racism as a public health emergency.

“As we complain about not being able to breathe in our masks while at work, stores and restaurants, imagine during these eight and a half minutes of silence that someone is willfully preventing you from breathing,” Anita Somani, MD, an Ob/Gyn with OhioHealth and Comprehensive Women's Care, told a group assembled at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hosptial.

We are proud of the OhioHealth associates at care sites from Mansfield to Athens and everywere in between, who took a moment of silence, or took a knee, and will continue to support and work together to achieve lasting change.
