10TV: Researchers: Overuse of antibiotics can make drugs less effective

Many medical scientists and researchers worldwide agree that we often receive antibiotics when we shouldn't. The overuse of antibiotics is a problem that, in some cases, triggers infection. Even common infections, such as a urinary tract infection, are now resisting antibiotic medications used to fight them.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that many antibiotic prescriptions are not necessary as they are used for viral infections, including the cold, sore throats and sinus infections.

Central Ohio hospitals have implemented "Antibiotic Stewardship," which are programs used to improve patient outcomes. It includes prescription guidelines to ensure patients receive the correct medications at the correct doses.
