10TV: Summer Sizzler event honors Riverside Methodist associate

It’s not every day a news station broadcasts a party live from the hospital, while Schmidt’s Sausage Haus and Restaurant serves up Bahama Mamas and cream puffs to you and your fellow associates. But that’s exactly what happened earlier this month in honor of Gayle Jenkins.

Gayle is an office specialist in the radiation oncology department at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. Community members were asked by WBNS-10TV and Schmidt's to nominate a colleague who really deserves to be celebrated for the work they do. The weekly winners would then receive a cookout, called “Dom’s Summer Sizzler,” for 50 associates, airing live on 10TV.

When he heard about the contest, Tom Pedrick, MD, radiation oncologist at Riverside knew that Gayle deserved this honor and submitted a nomination to 10TV.

“Gayle is the first person that patients meet when they come to radiation oncology at Riverside,” Dr. Pedrick told 10TV. “She has a way of personally connecting with every patient, every family member and the caregivers. She can diffuse a stressful situation and just make it a more calm experience. I can’t say enough about how compassionate and caring Gayle is.”

Gayle was humble about the honor and the kind words.

“(Dr. Pedrick) has been my friend for 32 years working together, so what can I say,” she said.

10TV meteorologist Mike Davis was on hand, filling in for the vacationing Dom Tiberi. Mike did weather reports and interviewed Gayle and Dr. Pedrick during the 90-minute newscast. Congratulations to Gayle on this well-deserved honor!
