Athens Messenger: Frontline Workers at O'Bleness Have Spirits Lifted by Kind Gestures

As the Delta variant continues to spread, community members are reaching out to show their support for hospital workers. The Athens Messenger covered a recent demonstration of kindness by Hopewell Health Centers toward frontline workers at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens.

Last week workers from Hopewell surprised O’Bleness associates with chalk drawings outside the hospital, as well as a breakfast for staff.

O’Bleness president LeeAnn Helber and nurse manager Becky Holcomb were interviewed about the support from Hopewell and others, what it feels like for hospital workers as they continue their work through the surge and how community members can best support the hospital, including being understanding about current restrictions and getting vaccinated for COVID-19 and the flu.

The show of support “came at the perfect time,” said Holcomb. “When you just think you’re at the end of your rope and then the community steps in, it just helps us do what we do.”
