Columbus Dispatch: Linden Residents Needing Healthcare Can Visit OhioHealth Mobile Clinic
In late May 2021, OhioHealth Wellness on Wheels added another neighborhood to its service area, providing primary care and women's health to those in the Linden area.
Sponsored in part by a generous $250,000 gift from Battelle, OhioHealth’s newest Wellness on Wheels mobile unit will eventually provide healthcare services at the Linden Community Center five days per week. The multidisciplinary healthcare team on the mobile unit provides a rotating schedule of women’s health and primary care clinics. Clinics are staffed by a variety of OhioHealth clinical resources, including:
- Provider (Physician or Advanced Practice Provider)
- Nurse
- Medical Assistant
- Community Health Worker
- Social Worker
Columbus Dispatch reporter Max Filby and photojournalist Doral Chenoweth recently visited a Wellness on Wheels clinic in Linden to see what the experience is like for patients. One patient, Katlin Drach, told them the mobile unit means easy access to care.
"It's nice knowing that I don't have to go super far, especially because we don't have a ton of money (for gas)," Drach told The Dispatch.
Pooja Lahoti, MD, was working on the unit the morning of the Dispatch's visit. She said it's vital that the team makes every patient feel welcome and cared for.
"The acceptance part is really, really important because a lot of these women are high risk," Dr. Lahoti told The Dispatch. "I think it's just a way to provide that care to people that may not have otherwise had it or had access to it."
