Columbus Dispatch: Unsung Heroes Bring Vaccinations to the Battle Lines

Everyone is aware of the heroic efforts of frontline healthcare workers in the battle against COVID-19, doctors, nurses and other staff dealing with the suffering every day.

What some may not be as familiar with are all of those people behind the scenes supporting their efforts.

The staff in the OhioHealth pharmacy department is one such group. Without their sacrifice, expertise and perseverance, vaccine clinics would come to a screeching halt.

OhioHealth currently has nine vaccination clinics in the various communities we serve and as of Tuesday, March 9, 2021, has administered approximately 80,000 doses to keep our staff and communities safe. We have increased our ability to administer the vaccine, when doses are available, from 200 per day to 2,000 per day.

And pharmacy is involved at every step along the vaccine trail, from working with the Ohio Department of Health to get the vaccine, to picking it up at the loading docks, storing it at precisely the right temperatures, thawing and reconstituting the vaccine, filling the syringes and even putting shots in arms.
