Hope and Tom Ashby Commit $2.8 Million to the OhioHealth Foundation

Ashbys PhotoOhioHealth would like to express sincere gratitude to Hope and Tom Ashby of Centerburg, who have committed $2.8 million to the OhioHealth Foundation through their estate plans to establish the Ashby Cancer Care Endowment Fund.

“Our desire was to see our gift go directly to cancer patients in need of support for the non-typical costs they encounter; those costs not covered by insurance or Medicare/Medicaid,” said the Ashbys. “We have so many family members and friends that have fought, or are fighting, this battle against cancer and while they are able to cover most healthcare expenses, there are too many patients who cannot. We wanted to make a difference in the lives of patients and allow for a brighter future for them.”

The Ashby Cancer Care Endowment Fund will allow for unmet needs of cancer patients to be covered, such as:

  • Access to transportation for healthcare appointments
  • Nutritious meals
  • Medical equipment
  • Comfort care programs to alleviate the symptoms, pain and stress associated with cancer treatment

“On behalf of the cancer care program at OhioHealth, I want to personally thank Hope and Tom Ashby for this transformative gift,” said Praveen Dubey, MD, Vice President, OhioHealth Cancer Care. “Cancer is challenging enough without patients having to contend with the financial stress of their care. The Ashbys’ gift will impact so many lives, and we are grateful for their compassion and generosity.”
