Marion Star: Doctors Return Home to Bring Care to Community

At some point in our lives it comes time to move away from home and start our own lives. But for three OhioHealth physicians, they knew that one day they would return to their childhood communities and work to make it a better place.

Three Marion graduates have returned home now as OhioHealth physicians. Kyle Feldmann, MD, Michael McLeese, DO and Cassie Vaflor Israel, MD, have all returned to their hometown to bring back care to their communities.

Dr. Feldmann studied medicine at the University of Toledo, and completed his residency at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. He is a 2004 graduate of Marion Harding High School, and was born at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital. He joined the OhioHealth family in September specializing in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.

"My goal was always to come back to the central Ohio area, and OhioHealth is an excellent organization to work for and be a part of," said Dr. Feldmann in an interview with Andrew Carter of the Marion Star. "Being able to have that opportunity and to come back to my hometown, too, make an impact on the community I grew up in and all the people I know, is something that just kind of fell together and is a great opportunity to take advantage of."

Dr. Israel also attended the University of Toledo for medical school, and then completed her residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a 2008 graduate of Pleasant High School. She has returned home as a primary care physician specializing in women’s health at OhioHealth’s University Drive location.

"I felt a deep connection to this community," Dr. Israel told the Marion Star. "The people that influenced where I wanted to be in my life and what I wanted to do are in this community and in the healthcare system. The full scope of training that I've received I can duplicate in Marion, and I was hoping to do that. So, I get to be home and I get to do everything I wanted to do."

Dr. McLeese studied medicine at The Ohio State University and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Adena Health System in Chillicothe. He is a 2007 graduate of River Valley High School. He has now returned home to Marion to practice internal medicine.

"It's very exciting to be back," Dr. McLeese told the Marion Star. "I worked with OhioHealth Marion General during (undergrad) in the emergency department. Since then, I've always known that I wanted to come back. This is the community that made me who I am. My wife is from Marion, so both of our parents are still here."

These three physicians say they are excited to be back serving their community and bring health care to people they grew up with.
