Medical Minute: Ohio State Fair Infant Care and Nursing Stations

MM - Fair Lactation Stations

This year, for the fifth year in a row, OhioHealth is helping families with young children have a more comfortable and convenient experience at the Ohio State Fair by providing Infant Care and Nursing Stations throughout the fairgrounds. This complimentary resource is the topic of the latest OhioHealth Medical Minute, which may be viewed above.

The four air-conditioned stations include private spaces with chairs, couches, changing tables and books and toys for older siblings. The stations are also equipped with an array of diaper changing supplies, bottle warmers, sunscreen and more.

On certain days and times, there is even a trained lactation consultant on-site to answer any questions that moms may have.

“We're here to support moms and help them breastfeed and just take some time away to spend with their little ones,” said Ashlie Barker, RN, OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital lactation consultant.

During their visit to the stations, parents are able to ask the lactation consultants questions, from the simple to the complex. The stations are available every day the fair is open, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“It’s just a nice cozy place for them to enjoy. We’ve had babies of all ages and questions from moms covering a bunch of topics ranging from pumping to storing milk,” said Barker.
