More Patients Turning to Genetic Testing

OhioHealth patient Abbey Williams and genetic counselor Lindsey Byrne were interviewed by ABC6 about genetic counseling. The story focused on why people may consider genetic testing and the benefits of having it done, such as being able to fight cancer before you get it (called being a “previvor”) or simply having the peace of mind that you are low risk.

Abbey has a history of cancer in her family, including her mother who passed away from the disease, so she and her two sisters underwent genetic counseling. They all tested positive for a gene leading to breast cancer and all three of them decided to undergo double mastectomies.
