OhioHealth Doctors Hospital Hosts Community Health Fair May 9

OhioHealth Doctors Hospital will host a community health fair on May 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Founders Hall 1 and 2, located in the medical office building at Doctors Hospital. The event is free and open to the public.

The goal: to bring as many resources as possible together in one place for patients and the community.

The idea began when Amanda Maynard, DO, OhioHealth internal medicine and director for outpatient services, first joined Doctors Hospital.

“I had the idea for the preventative health screening fair when I started at Doctors Hospital three years ago,” Dr. Maynard said. “I really saw a need for patients in our community to obtain services for regular health screenings, at no/low cost, and felt compelled to do something.”

Years in the making, this is a true community-wide effort.

“We have multiple organizations involved, from mental health services to food banks and homeless shelters,” said Dr. Maynard.

The event is a collaboration between Doctors Hospital medicine faculty, residents and staff, medical students from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (HCOM), and medical experts from the OhioHealth Doctors Hospital Community Care Clinic.

The Community Care Clinic will be fully operational during the fair, welcoming walk-in patients who may need to be seen by a healthcare provider that day. Services include acute and chronic disease management, labs and radiology, care navigation, and same-day consultations with specialists as needed.

OhioHealth’s substance use navigator team, dietitians, and care management staff will also be on site to provide additional support and guidance.

“We’re also partnering with incredible community organizations such as BrightView Addiction, ANDHealth, Mid-Ohio Food Collective, and Aspen Dental, to name a few,” said Joy Walton, MD, OhioHealth internal medicine-pediatrics physician and Community Care medical director.

The fair will offer screenings for skin, lung, breast, and colon cancer, as well as checks for vision, blood pressure, and diabetes.

“Additionally, we’ll be offering support for those needing help navigating insurance and financial assistance,” said Dr. Walton.

For those who do not yet have a primary care provider, staff will be available to help connect attendees with a primary care home.

“We believe this is crucial for our community because of the overwhelming vulnerability of our patients—both medically and socially—in the face of limited resources and barriers to care within a complex medical system,” said Dr. Walton. “We are optimistic that this gesture of providing more accessible care will uplift our community's opportunities to receive high-quality preventative care, improve their health outcomes, and ultimately provide hope to a community that desperately needs it.”
