OhioHealth Front Line Associate Shares Navy Experiences

Just in time for Veteran’s Day, OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital safety and emergency management officer Melody Barnhart shared her reflections with the Athens Messenger on her experiences serving in the military. Barnhart spent 20 years serving with the U.S. Navy as an Intelligence Specialist (IS) with over eight of those in Iraq and Afghanistan. Skills she developed serving ultimately translated to her role in the safety and emergency management department and Barnhart’s assigned care site, O’Bleness, where today she is on the front lines of the hospital’s COVID response.

OhioHealth and O’Bleness has been a welcoming environment for Barnhart, coworkers and all associates who served in the military past or current. The hospital marks each Veteran’s Day with a unique celebration, including a chance for veterans to share their experiences through a display of personal mementos from their time in the service and a flag ceremony honoring those who have served.
