OhioHealth Holds Sideline Emergencies Simulation Training With Washington Township Fire at Dublin Scioto High School

This month, OhioHealth teamed up with Washington Township Fire to hold a sideline emergencies simulation training at Dublin Scioto High School. OhioHealth’s medical simulation team, sports medicine fellows, family medicine residents, athletic trainers, and Washington Township EMS went through scenarios where medical emergencies may occur during practices or games, such as cardiac arrest, c-spine injuries, and concussions.

The OhioHealth simulation team and sports medicine team prepared the teams on the sidelines to ensure the athletes, and their families or visitors are safe. During the simulation training, the combined teams worked with a medical manikin and actors to practice caring for patients with spine injury, concussion or cardiac arrest.

Brad Gable, MD, System Medical Director of OhioHealth Simulation, said many times patients’ first point of contact with the healthcare system is often in the prehospital setting. Being prepared to handle an emergency, at any time and in any place, is crucial.

OhioHealth reaches approximately 12,000 learners per year. OhioHealth has over 90 school partners, (individual schools), and over 180 athletic trainers.
