Crew-OhioHealth Partnership

This week marks a huge announcement between OhioHealth and Columbus Crew SC on a multi-year partnership agreement. That includes OhioHealth continuing as the exclusive healthcare provider for the soccer club, as well as sponsor of the future OhioHealth Performance Center at the current Mapfre Stadium. OhioHealth president and CEO Steve Markovich, MD brings you more in this OhioHealth Medical Minute.

Marcus Thorpe/Host: Huge amount of buzz surrounding a new season, and new partnership with Crew SC. Steve, talk about what that means, I know it's an exciting time for you and this organization.

Steve Markovich: We are super excited about this. We see this as a big investment in the Columbus community, and when we invest in the community all boats rise.  An opportunity for us to invest in the community, wellness, leadership and the development of youth. There will be all sorts of programming, so a tremendous experience for not only fans but for everyone in Columbus.

Marcus: So the exclusive healthcare provide for the team, that continues, but we are also talking about the OhioHealth Performance Center, let's talk about that, what it is, and what it means for the organization.

Steve: Over time when we move into the new stadium, the old stadium will be converted into the OhioHealth Performance Center.  42,000 square feet of space for programming, for communities, health, wellness, administrative office space.  There will be a number of soccer pitches all across what used to be parking lots over there.  This will bring people to Columbus, raise the profile of that community. This will allow us to recruit new talent, visiting teams will practice there, our team will practice there. We are pumped up about this.

Marcus: At the press conference you said, what a time to be a Crew fan, and OhioHealth is one of the biggest. Talk about the buzz in this community surrounding this upcoming season.

Steve: It's palpable, we are going to have a great stadium, one of the nicest in the league, across the country.  It's going to be a great venue. The team is pumped up and ready to go.  OhioHealth is going to be a big part of that. The culture between the Crew organization, OhioHealth, the leadership teams, it's been outstanding chemistry.  Go OhioHealth, and go Crew!
