OhioHealth Mobile Mammography Unit Expands Access to Mammograms at Community Health Day

OhioHealth’s North Market Mobile Mammography Unit completed more than a dozen mammograms at Richland Public Health’s Free Community Health Day Friday. The mammograms were part of a variety of health services offered at the event as an effort to bring preventative care to those who need it most. In total, the mobile mammography unit completed 13 mammograms. Of those, four were considered “baseline,” meaning it was that patient’s very first mammogram.

“We perform approximately two and a half times more baseline mammograms on our mobile unit than we do at our hospital locations,” said Elisa Bryant MSML, BSN, RN, business project manager of oncology services at OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals. “That tells us something important. When we make screening more convenient and accessible, more people take that first step. It speaks volumes about the value of community outreach, education, and collaboration in helping our community prioritize their health.”

This was the North Market Mobile Mammography Unit’s third time partnering with Richland Public Health for Community Health Day. Patients with access to the patient portal have already received their mammogram results. Patients without portal access will receive their results by mail this week. If additional imaging is needed, a breast diagnostic health navigator will contact the patient directly.

“Early detection saves lives,” said Bryant. “Every mammography screening creates an opportunity to find breast cancer earlier, when treatment is often more effective, and outcomes are improved.”
