OhioHealth Morrow County Hospital is strengthening its emergency care by appointing two new leaders to the hospital’s emergency department. The duo bring vast experience, system knowledge, and strong ties to the communities they serve. Matthew White, MD, will serve as medical director, and Evan Springer, DO, as associate medical director of Morrow County Hospital’s emergency department.
Both Dr. Matthew White and Dr. Evan Springer have deep roots in neighboring Marion County, located less than 20 minutes from Morrow County Hospital. Having grown up in the region and built their careers caring for local patients, the physicians understand the importance of providing high-quality care close to home and helping patients remain in their communities whenever possible. Even as a critical access hospital, Morrow County Hospital’s transfer rate to a different hospital is just 9%.
"Keeping care local has always been a priority for me," said Dr. White. "Not every hospital has every specialty service available, but our goal is to help patients receive the right care in the right place and keep them close to home whenever possible. By working closely with specialists and care teams throughout OhioHealth, we can create pathways that make care more coordinated and accessible for the people of Morrow County."
The appointment builds on Dr. White's nearly 20 years of emergency medicine experience at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital, including the last decade as medical director of its emergency department. Dr. Springer joined Marion General Hospital after completing medical school at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and his emergency medicine residency at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital.
"The emergency department in Marion has grown tremendously over the years, and I've seen firsthand the positive impact strong leadership can have on patient care," said Dr. Springer. "I'm excited to work alongside Dr. White and help bring that same focus on quality, consistency and patient-centered care to Morrow County Hospital."
Both physicians say patients can expect the same high standard of care available throughout the OhioHealth system while benefiting from ongoing investments in the hospital's emergency department, including renovations currently underway. This is part of OhioHealth’s commitment to spending at least $6 million on capital improvement dollars at Morrow County Hospital before 2030.
"The renovation demonstrates OhioHealth's commitment to the region and its willingness to invest in the future of healthcare in Morrow County," said Dr. Springer. "That should be encouraging for the community and for the patients we serve."
As Morrow County Hospital continues to grow as part of the OhioHealth system, Drs. White and Springer say their focus will remain on delivering high-quality, compassionate emergency care while ensuring patients have access to the resources they need close to home.
