OhioHealth Names New Chief of Musculoskeletal Services, Overseeing Orthopedic Surgery, Non-Surgical Orthopedics and Sports Medicine & Primary Care Teams

OhioHealth announced today the creation of a new role within the organization, Chief of Musculoskeletal Services, (MSK). Darrin Bright, MD, will be stepping into this role and will oversee orthopedics surgery, non-surgical orthopedics and sports medicine and primary care teams.

“When you look at the MSK space within OhioHealth, we see several independent practices that came together over time gradually becoming larger and larger groups. We’ve really gotten to the point where we can no longer function independently and need to work together,” Dr. Bright said, “So I think there is a great opportunity here to really start functioning more as a cohesive group and make sure that we identify where our opportunities lie within the community and how we can better serve the needs of our community.”

It's also an opportunity for OhioHealth to collaborate closely with the non-employed groups and our community partners.

As systems grow it can become confusing for patients to navigate care. For patients, his hope is to make it easier for patients to find the right care at the right place at the right time. Not only does he want to help make it more convenient for patients to find the right physician or treatment, but also a location that is within their community.

Dr. Bright completed a six-year BSMD program through NEOMED. He completed his residency at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in family medicine and had his fellowship in sports medicine at The Ohio State University. After his fellowship, he worked as a team physician for Ohio State. After leaving Ohio State he went into private practice with his group establishing Max Sports Medicine that ultimately merged with OhioHealth in 2009

Throughout his years at OhioHealth, Dr. Bright, has taken on many roles. Most recently was the medical director for sports medicine and primary care and co-chair for the OhioHealth Sports Medicine Advisory committee.  Previously he has served as the medical director for OhioHealth Capital City Half and Quarter Marathon, medical director for the Columbus Marathon, team physician for Otterbein, team physician for Ohio University, and team physician for Worthington Kilburn High School.

Outside of his everyday career responsibilities, Dr. Bright likes to stay active and enjoy quality time with his family. He has two daughters; one is a librarian, and the other is a fourth-grade teacher. He’s an active runner, likes to travel and enjoys the outdoors.
