OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital Recognizes Volunteers
OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital recognized the contributions of its dedicated volunteers during National Healthcare Volunteer Week, April 21-27.
Volunteers were honored at a luncheon on April 24 and throughout the week at the hospital.
"Our volunteers and their passion for helping others are inspiring,” said LeeAnn Lucas-Helber, president of O’Bleness Hospital. “During National Healthcare Volunteer Week, we extend our sincerest gratitude to each and every one of them for their contributions to our hospital."
In 2023, 97 volunteers collectively contributed over 6,500 hours of service to O’Bleness, according to volunteer program manager Amy Radekin-Lent. “Our volunteers serve in a wide variety of roles, from greeting patients to supporting pharmacy, oncology, Birth Center and other departments to staffing information desks throughout the campus.”
“The volunteer corps of the hospital is made up of a mix of community members, high school and college students seeking volunteer hours and enriching experiences,” said Radekin-Lent. “We also work with students from Tri-County Career Center’s Project SEARCH program (for students with developmental disabilities) and facilitate job shadowing and observations for Ohio University, Hocking College and other college students. We also offer music therapy and pet therapy as part of our volunteer program.”
“It’s a win-win,” said Lucas-Helber. “For community members with career aspirations in healthcare, volunteering offers a way to explore their interests and get hands-on experience. For those who want simply want to give back, we offer a meaningful opportunity to support our patients and caregivers.”

O’Bleness volunteer Harold Robison of Athens. Robison has greeted patients at the hospital’s main entrance since 2008. Prior to his retirement, he taught music for in Kentucky for 10 years and at the Ohio University School of Music for 35 years.
