OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital to Open Dec. 6

Hospital Will Bring a Variety of New Services to the Community, Including Smart Room Technology

OhioHealth will be opening its 15th hospital, OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 1010 Refugee Road. The hospital was built over 30 acres of undeveloped land on-site, expanding from the northern side of the current campus.  This hospital will bring new services, such as labor and delivery, trauma and infusion services to the community.

“Since opening in 2015, the OhioHealth Pickerington Medical Campus has proudly served the community and its healthcare needs,” said Kevin Lutz, DPM, president, Pickerington Methodist.  “Now, with the opening of the hospital, we’re thrilled to expand our already robust services with new capabilities that will save and improve the lives of our patients.”

New services in the hospital include:

  • Surgery (such as general surgery, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, orthopedics, urology and trauma
  • Women’s health (including labor and delivery, gynecology, maternal fetal medicine, neonatology and more)
  • Acute and specialty care (inpatient and outpatient), such as lung care, kidney care, infectious diseases and hospital medicine
  • Primary care
  • Sports medicine
  • Cancer care
  • Heart and vascular (including a cardiac cath lab)
  • Stroke care with a stroke interventional suite
  • Imaging, lab services, pharmacy and rehabilitation services

The Pickerington Emergency Care Center, which has become one of the busiest freestanding emergency departments in the OhioHealth system, remains on-site but will no longer be considered a freestanding emergency department as it’s now part of a hospital.

Advanced In-Room Technology to Enhance Patient Experience

Pickerington Methodist will be the first hospital in central Ohio to offer new smart room technology that will simplify communication between the patient and their care team, as well as family and friends, while bringing some of the comforts of home right to the bedside. These features include in-room video capabilities, tailored digital patient education, a digital meal ordering platform and access to real-time patient information through digital door signage. "We are so excited to be bringing this kind of technology to Pickerington,” said Dr. Lutz.  “It’s going to be a game changer in terms of patient experience and it’s also going to allow our care teams to work more efficiently to deliver the highest quality of care.” 

Media Tours

Media is invited to tour Pickerington Methodist Hospital before it opens to the public on Wednesday, November 29 at 9:30 a.m.  There will be opportunities for b-roll, photos, interviews and demonstrations of the smart room technology.  Please email katie.logan@ohiohealth.com to confirm attendance.  Media should park in the back parking lot near the hospital entrance and plan to meet at 9:30 a.m. in the main lobby of the hospital (not the outpatient medical campus lobby).

Community Event

A community open house will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy a variety of activities such as:

  • Behind the scenes tours of the hospital
  • Screening for interested potential donors to the OhioHealth Mothers’ Milk Bank
  • Fire, EMS and police touch-a-truck
  • Holiday crafts and games
  • Live entertainment by locally grown, nationally known country artist, Lee Gantt
  • Special appearances from Columbus Blue Jackets’ Stinger and Columbus Crew Cat

 There will be a brief opening ceremony at 10:15 a.m.
