OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital Career Fair Highlights New Paths for Associates

Where is your career going? Are you ready for a new adventure? 

This fall at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, associates throughout the health system had a chance to get some of those questions answered with a large job fair right in the hospital.

“OhioHealth wants to grow you as a person,” said Marissa Nocar, BSN, RN, manager of Quality & Safety at Riverside Methodist Hospital. “They want to see you grow. They want to see your career expand.”

Some are further along in their healthcare career, some more than 20 years in. 

“I think it's fantastic that an organization as big as OhioHealth is willing to help any of us further education and a job fair is a great way to get people to know what's going on,” said Elisabeth Null, laboratory specialist at Riverside Methodist. 

“Expanding your options. People are in healthcare for a long time and didn't know a certain avenue existed, so highlighting those really can personalize what your next steps are," said Nocar.

Others are little earlier on in their careers, but learning there are plenty of options for growth, for tuition reimbursement and partnerships with groups like Columbus State Community College. 

“I really want to branch out and just get better experience,” said Anu Alfred, Columbus State nursing student and patient registration representative at Riverside. “I really just want to be a well rounded nurse. I feel like this will really branch me out and get my foot in the door.”

That's the hope: to find those bright minds, to hire them and, most importantly, to keep them around. 

“We were really trying to combat first year turnover at OhioHealth and making sure that associates knew what was available to them,” said Stephanie McGarity, RN, Administrative Nurse Manager at Riverside. “So even once you get in the door and you're here, where can you go from here?”
