OhioHealth to Build Health Center in Ashland

$14 million investment will include emergency services and additional primary care providers

OhioHealth announced today it will build a 22,000-sq.-ft. health center in order to grow its services in Ashland. The OhioHealth Ashland Health Center will be located on the corner of State Route 250 and George Road. OhioHealth plans to break ground in November. The $14 million facility is anticipated to open in fall of 2020.

OhioHealth currently has provider practices and outpatient services on Amberwood Parkway in Ashland, and some of its providers have directly served the Ashland community for more than 30 years. In addition, OhioHealth is the official healthcare provider of Ashland University Athletics.

OhioHealth’s well-established presence in Ashland will be expanded upon with a new freestanding emergency department and additional primary care and specialty care providers. The growth in services will complement OhioHealth’s current services and provide a more convenient choice for OhioHealth patients who live, work and shop in and near Ashland.

“It’s exciting that we will be expanding our services in Ashland in order to better serve the community. Our mission is to improve the health of those we serve, and our philosophy is to keep care local as often as possible,” said Vinson Yates, president of OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals. “Mansfield Hospital has the only trauma center within 60 miles. Mansfield Hospital’s heart and vascular and orthopedics teams, who are nationally recognized, already serve the community of Ashland. By adding emergency services and expanding our primary care in Ashland, we will also provide convenience and choice for the community to stay closer to home when needs arise.”

The two-story health center will feature an emergency department and outpatient blood draw lab on the first floor, and provider practices and outpatient physical therapy on the second floor.

Similar to the freestanding emergency department in Ontario, OhioHealth Emergency Care – Ashland will have eight treatment rooms, a resuscitation room and imaging capabilities for emergency patients. The department will be staffed 24/7 by emergency physicians and a clinical team experienced in treating patients with severe or life-threatening conditions, such as severe bleeding, shortness of breath or chest pain.

The primary care practice, lab and therapy are currently at locations on Amberwood Parkway and will relocate to this new health center. The orthopedic, heart and vascular, and podiatry practices in Ashland will remain at their current locations. Openings at the Amberwood medical office building will allow for future growth.
