The McConnell Foundation Pledges $1.5 Million to Advance OhioHealth’s Excellence in Heart and Vascular Care

The McConnell Foundation has pledged a generous gift of $1.5 million to advance OhioHealth’s excellence in heart and vascular care with the creation of the McConnell Foundation Endowed Chair in Cardiac Critical Care.

“This philanthropic commitment will ensure that critically ill patients who come to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital will receive the most state-of-the art, comprehensive cardiac critical care available,” said President of the OhioHealth Foundation and Senior Vice President of OhioHealth, Karen Morrison.

OhioHealth’s Heart and Vascular Service Line has earned a top reputation for handling complex heart conditions, conducting approximately 800 open heart surgeries and 400 transcatheter aortic valve implantations annually – the most in the region.

“This gift from the McConnell family and the McConnell Foundation recognizes the incomparable heart and vascular team at OhioHealth who delivers exceptional care to our community every day. It is an investment that will create opportunities for discovery and innovation and benefit the nearly 1,500 patients with complex heart conditions who come to OhioHealth each year for its expertise in cardiac critical care,” said McConnell Foundation Spokesperson and President of JMAC, Inc., Mike Priest.

For nearly 40 years, the McConnell Family and The McConnell Foundation have provided a multi-generational philanthropic legacy and commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. It is through their generosity and transformational giving that OhioHealth has built a national reputation for preeminent cardiac care.

Their steadfast support created the first-named endowed chair at OhioHealth, the John H. McConnell Chair in Structural Heart Disease, establishing our Structural Heart Program in 2011.  The McConnell Foundation Endowed Chair in Cardiac Critical Care will now provide its chairholder the chance to lead life-saving work for patients treated by OhioHealth’s Heart and Vascular and Acute Care service lines.
