Three OhioHealth Hospitals Named to the 2015 Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® List

OhioHealth only health system in the nation with two Everest Award winners

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three OhioHealth hospitals – OhioHealth Riverside Methodist, OhioHealth Doctors Hospital and OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital – have been named as three of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics®, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. The Top Hospitals were announced in this week’s edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.

VanderhoffAdditionally, Riverside Methodist and Doctors Hospital are among just 17 hospitals in the country to receive the Everest Award. Everest Award winners are selected from among the 100 Top Hospitals award winners for setting national benchmarks for both long-term (three to five year) improvement and highest one-year performance on the 100 Top Hospitals’ balanced scorecard.

This is Riverside Methodist’s third consecutive year on the Everest Award list and the first for Doctors Hospital. Riverside Methodist has received it more times, three, than any of the other 16 Everest Award winners listed for 2015. OhioHealth is the only health system in the nation to have two of its hospitals named as Everest Award winners.

“We are incredibly gratified to have multiple OhioHealth hospitals on the Top Hospitals list again this year,” said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, senior vice president and chief medical officer for OhioHealth. “What is even more rewarding is to see the unwavering commitment of our physicians and associates to deliver exceptional care to every patient recognized through this, the most prestigious quality award, year after year.”

The Truven Study
Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals. Risk-adjusted methodologies were used to analyze public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare reports. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.

“This year’s 100 Top Hospitals represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management today. said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and the 100 Top Hospitals program at Truven Health Analytics. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow — consistently delivering outstanding quality of care, satisfaction and community value at a reasonable cost. “

The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:

  • 108,926 additional patients could  be complication-free
  • $1.8 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
  • Episode-of-illness expense would be 2 percent lower than the peer average

OhioHealth hospitals are the only ones in central Ohio to rank among the 100 Top Hospitals this year and that we have been named amongst the nation’s best for so many consecutive years.

This year, Doctors Hospital is the only hospital in Ohio named in the “Major Teaching Hospitals” category.

Riverside Methodist Hospital is the only central Ohio hospital ranked in the “Teaching Hospitals” category.

Dublin Methodist Hospital is the only hospital in central Ohio named to the “Small Community Hospitals” category.
