Video Transcript:
What type of protein is best for your body? The kind of dietary protein you choose may affect your health over the long haul, according to a new study.

Researchers conducted the largest analysis to date on the effects of different sources of protein and found that a high intake of animal protein, especially red meat, was associated with an increased risk of death. That risk was strongest among people with at least one unhealthy lifestyle factor, such as obesity, smoking, heavy alcohol consumption or physical inactivity. On the other hand, people who ate more protein from plant sources had a lower risk of dying.

According to one of the authors, these findings “suggest that people should consider eating more plant proteins than animal proteins, and when they do choose among sources of animal protein, fish and chicken are probably better choices.”
